Current standings now posted!

Snapshot ESAWell, we have surfed 4 contests so far for our 2014 season! It is our intention to surf the remaining scheduled events, conditions permitting. For those of you who took advantage of our “Double Point” contest 4, you may find you’re in a great position in the season rankings. Keep in mind, in keeping with our ESA rule, whenever we surf at least 4 events during our season, we always deduct the surfer’s low score. Example – If a surfer won 3 events but missed 1 the year-end ranking will be calculated like (1000+1000+1000+0) or (3000-0) for a total of 3000 points as compared to say another surfer who surfed all 4 events and, for example, placed (3rd,3rd,2nd,4th) (points are totaled 810+810+900+729) = 3249, Then the the low score is dropped (3249-729=2520) – So, you can see how coming into the final event, Surfer 2 was leading the points ranking, but after the “low score drop”, surfer 1 is now in the lead. This was put into effect many years ago in an attempt to truly find the consistent winners. Let’s face it, even the best surfers have “bad” days. Or, maybe a surfer was ill and had to miss an event. The low event drop is a great way to show your best events. Keep this in mind, even if you haven’t missed any events. If you do better in the upcoming events, you get to drop your contest from the year-end total. Who will be our 2014 Division Season Champs? Have a look at the current standing here.  Don’t forget to register for our December contest and thanks to all of our surfers and friends for making this a great season so far!

Final 2013 Season Point Standings pending current membership. Please Review your points. If you see your name highlighted in blue – you have membership issues. If you want your points to count for qualification for the 2014 SE Regional Championships, USA Surfing America National Championships, or 2013 Easterns – your membership must be current before regionals. If you wish to compete at either the USA Surfing America Championships or the Easterns -you must have your membership current and you must compete at the 2014 SE Regional Championships. To renew membership click here – The following sheets show ranking by division and reflect qualifying members only. This means that some competitors who surfed with us this season may not have surfed enough events. In this case, their names have been omitted for the purposes of creating a recap of qualified surfers as it pertains to Regionals. Note – Some of you surfed with us this season and may have your “home district” noted as another district other than Central Florida. If you intend to use Central Florida Points to qualify, be sure to clear this issue up ASAP – click here to contact ESA Headquarters and send your concern to them to get this cleared up ASAP. We have tallied points to the best of our knowledge and ability (sorry for the delay – our old computer crashed over the holidays!) If you notice a discrepancy, notify us and we will look into the matter and correct if and as needed. We want to thank all of our competitors, their families, our sponsors and supporters for a great 2013 season. Our directors work hard as volunteers to keep the local stoke alive and well in our community and we are as great as our members help make us. An additional thanks to our regular judges Barry, Dan, Brandon, Jess, and of course our fantastic head judge Chip Hall. The level of professionalism for our local surf organization is amazing and we think it surpasses many of the larger regional competitions, don’t you think? A special “shout out” to the new Polliwogs and their assistants – what a great job all you groms did this season. Boy are you in for a lifetime of healthy fun as an East Coast surfer and we are so happy you surfed with us this season. Keep in mind that this division is a “fun division” only, as is Open Longboard. You have done great this year and your ranking counts at our local level but not at the regional or Easterns level. We hope to have an end of season get together before the end of March so stay tuned! Season Standings are in!

These are the standings after “low point drop”. Explanation – in ESA, whenever more than 4 comps are held, a surfers low score is dropped. If a surfer surfed 4 contests but missed one, then  “0 points” are deducted. In divisions where 4 or less competitions were held, there is no deduction and the sum of points earned is the actual season score. Below, you will see scores reflected with the surfers “low score” already dropped. These scores are being posted and will be forwarded to our regional director to be compared with other districts in the southeast to determine who will receive an invite to regionals. Even when slots are awarded there may be an opportunity for surfers not receiving an initial slot to be awarded an alternate slot. So the moral to this story is stay tuned and when slot info is released we will let you know the info link. We will post updates on our site and on Facebook. Congrats to all of our competitors. You should be proud of your success.CCF010913_00001CCF010913_00002CCF010913_00003CCF010913_00004CCF010913_00005

Have a look at the current standings going into our final comp of the 2012-13 competitive season. Your ranking will help determine your invitation and seed at the 2013 ESA SE Regional Championships this April in New Smyrna Beach and from there at the 2013 ESA Easterns in Outer Banks NC. Hope to see everyone out there giving it their best and may the cream rise to the top! See you on the Beach!!
