Regionals update Day 2

REGIONALS UPDATE! – ok everybody, wow what a day. we had amazing waves with offshore conditions all day and completed heat 58 (girls). then due to a severe weather advisory, we made the decision to call the day of competition off. our decision was correct and thankfully, all the beach gear and tents were stowed away before a gnarly west squall beat down on us. we were literally in the fringes of tornado activity. so thankful we safely evacuated the beach with no injuries or damage to our equipment! so, on to tomorrow. we will begin day 3 of Regionals at 8 AM starting with heat 59 (the 1st heat of Rnd 2 of Jr Mens). this will add 4 hours to our planned event which gives us an estimated finish time of 4:15 pm, assuming there are no other delays. see the attached heat schedule. add 4 hours to the Sunday schedule for approximate start times in those divisions. if you advanced today, and were scheduled to surf later today, be advised that your heats will continue Sunday AM – Let’s do this! See you all tomorrow!

the 2014 ESA SE Regional Surfing Championships is now open for registration

Deadline is February 24, 2014

See the sheets below, which explain how many slots are guaranteed by division and by district.

ex. Menehune is “5” for CFL (Central Florida) which means the top 5 menehune surfers from CFL are slotted. Does this mean you can’t surf? No! If you want to compete in Regionals and don’t have a guaranteed slot, but you qualify as an alternate (which means you surfed the minimum amount of season events and your membership is current through 9/30/14) we urge you to register for your division(s) as an alternate. In our experience, you will probably get in. This is due, in part, to the fact some some surfers from other districts, or even our own, may not be able to attend. In this situation, registered alternates will be considered to surf at regionals. The worst case scenario, if you don’t get in, you will get a full refund of your registration fee after regionals. It’s a good insurance policy, if you will. We want as many of our CFL surfers to attend and show them what we’re made of! We are proud to be the hosting the SE Regionals this year and we are are excited to showcase our talents to the region! This definitely applies to everyone! Make sure your membership is current thru 9/30/14 or your registration will not be accepted! To renew membership go here.

If your name is in blue, your membership had issues. Many of you took care of this and we thank you. Please disregard the blue if you recently updated your membership. This is each members responsibility and if you’re not sure, notify ESA Headquarters here. If you want to download a full registration and membership packet to be mailed-in click here for forms.

We have tallied points to the best of our knowledge and ability (sorry for the delay – our old computer crashed over the holidays!) We want to thank all of our competitors, their families, our sponsors and supporters for a great 2013 season. Our directors work hard as volunteers to keep the local stoke alive and well in our community and we are as great as our members help make us. An additional thanks to our regular judges Barry, Dan, Brandon, Jess, and of course our fantastic head judge Chip Hall. The level of professionalism for our local surf organization is amazing and we think it surpasses many of the larger regional competitions, don’t you think? A special “shout out” to the new Polliwogs and their assistants – what a great job all you groms did this season. Boy are you in for a lifetime of healthy fun as an East Coast surfer and we are so happy you surfed with us this season. Keep in mind that this division is a “fun division” only, as is Open Longboard. You have done great this year and your ranking counts at our local level but not at the regional or Easterns level. We hope to have an end of season get together before the end of March so stay tuned! Press Release

Surfing Championship comes to New Smyrna Beach, Florida

The Eastern Surfing Association is hosting its Southeast Regional Surfing Championships at the New Smyrna Beach Inlet April 18-21, 2013.

The ESA is the largest amateur surf organization in the United States. Established in 1967, the non- profit ESA will bring over 200 competitors to the resort area for four days of exciting surfing and SUP surfing competition.

“We are thrilled to bring this event back to New Smyrna Beach,” says ESA Executive Director Michelle Sommers. “Pam Hill, ESA’s new Southeast Regional Director, is planning a phenomenal event.”

Pam has been involved in the ESA for many years. “Her experience of organizing and running surf contests will make this event one of the best in years,” states Sommers.

The competitors for this event have qualified through their local ESA districts. They will be competing for their chance to surf the ESA’s final championship event, the Easterns.

A live, streaming webcast will cover all four days of competition on the ESA website. The ESA is welcoming any local sponsors who are interested. “Not only may businesses and individuals get a tax benefit for donating since the ESA is a non-profit, they are helping to promote this exciting event to a huge audience of various demographics,” Sommers adds.

The ESA’s national sponsors include Under Armour, Sun Bum, Hyperflex Wetsuits, Starboard Surfboards, Jimmy Lewis SUP, Catch Surf, Surfer Magazine, Swellinfo, and Ransom Surf Wax.

To inquire about sponsorship opportunities for this event, please contact Pam Hill at surfkittypam@msn.com.

The ESA, which just celebrated its 45th anniversary in 2012, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit amateur athletic organization dedicated to the sport of amateur surfing. The organization promotes amateur competition for surfers of all ages and abilities, and is dedicated to the establishment and preservation of free access to a clean shoreline and ocean environment.

Are you ready for regionals? Get plenty of rest, eat well, and make sure you and your equipment are in prime condition! Take time to stretch and do an activity that will help your endurance, like jogging or swimming laps. The longer your engine runs well could mean the difference between you advancing in your rounds and your opponent not. Please familiarize yourself with ESA’s Rules of Competition. Make sure your board has dings patched, fins are tight, and if you’re wearing a leash make sure it’s in good condition. We are “Central Florida” so we encourage you to cheer for others from our district while they’re surfing their heats! It’s fun, and it’s what Central Florida ESA is all about! Let’s show the Southeast region what a “class-act” we are and take special care to make sure we keep the beach clean, care for groms to insure they are safe from passing cars on the beach, and feel free to congratulate your opponents before and/or after your heats. Your attendance at this contest represents an excellent achievement on your behalf as well as others in competition with you. Be a champion and respect others the way you would want to be treated. Positive attitudes and language will, in return, reward you with a far more enjoyable experience. If you’re on the beach, we encourage you to attend the daily awards, even if you’re not a finalist. Not only will it give you a chance to celebrate in others victories, you might see yourself on that podium and one thing is for certain, you must visualize to materialize! By all means, have fun because it’s what surfing is all about! See you on the beach!!
